Ganeshji Returns

It has been two years of lockdowns and deaths and two years without festivals. So its not surprising that this years the festivities are bigger than ever as you can see right here.

The tallest Ganesh, 2022

This is the Ganeshji of Khetwadi, 11th lane. The photo was taken by Dr Brijesh Raj and Kashmira Shaw as it arrived a few days ago. This Ganesh is 38 ft tall, which means that it would be eye level if you were standing at the third floor window. What a delight to watch it pass on its way to its home pandal. It is possibly the biggest and certainly the tallest in years.

It is Parashuram style Ganesh, standing, holding an axe, aptly the Mumbaicha Maharaj, lord of Mumbai. Lord Parashuram is particularly relevant to Mumbai and the Konkan coast since he is credited with reclaiming the coast from the sea when he wanted a fresh new land to live with his people. This whole area is called the Parashuram bhoomi, the land of Parashuram.

Happy Ganesh Chaturthi.
